Guide to Portrush

View from Portrush

Portrush is where Northern Ireland folk would head for their own holidays if they wanted a ‘staycation’ or just a few days away.  Portrush is located on the north coast of Northern Ireland and is surrounded by beautiful strands (or beaches).  You have your pick of water adventure activities include kite buggying and wind surfing with loads of other opportunities for the like minded.

Portrush is also known for its golfing.  Actually, Northern Ireland has world class golf courses in its own right, however some would argue that the best of the best is the Royal Portrush Golf Course.  The Royal Portrush has two links courses:  green fees on the Dunluce Course average £125 - £140 during the summer for a round while fees for the Valley Course average £40.  Winter fees are reduced by approximately half.  Both the Dunluce and Valley Courses have stunning scenery of the North Atlantic coast allowing you to see Donegal in one direction and Scotland in the other if the weather is clear.  The Royal Portrush Golf Course is the only golf course outside of Great Britain that has hosted the Open Championship (otherwise known as the British Open) however the Royal Portrush is no longer on the Open Championship rota (the Open was hosted in 1951).  I cannot quote a source for the following, but it is said that Tiger Woods played this course and shot an 81.

Portrush is also known as one of the towns in which the Northwest 200 races through.  See more details here.
