Guide to Torr Head; Guide to Torr Head Scenic Drive
If you would like a thrill and it is a nice day, then the Torr Head Scenic Drive is for you.
To take this drive, you should exit off the A2 at B92 heading on Knocknacarry Rd. This drive is not a part of the Causeway Coast Route and is not for the faint-hearted, but if you heart can stand the roads then it is certainly worth it.
This detour will also take you into Cushendun which is definitely worthy of a walk around. Once you are back in the car, the narrow road, barely wide enough for two cars to pass, switches back across the headlands and corkscrews down the cliffside, offering spectacular views of the rugged coastline and the distant Mull of Kintyre in Scotland. This is the closest that Northern Ireland gets to Scotland! In the 1800s, this was used as a lookout for vessels crossing the Transatlantic.
Two kilometres north of Cushendale you can see the walls and ruins of Altagore cashel (or stone fort) that dates back to the sixth century.
Although this drive is not technically a part of the Causeway Coast, if the weather is good enough, then this is a highly recommended journey.
