Guide to Ballintoy; Guide to Whitepark Bay; Dunseverick Castle

Ballintoy BeachI have chosen to include Ballintoy as a separate piece under the Causeway Coast Route as I just love Ballintoy!  It is peaceful and beautiful and really epitomises what the Causeway Coast Route is about.  Ballintoy is on the B15 coast route and is between the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and the Giants Causeway and has reasonable tourist facilities if one did want to stop for the night.

If you were a walker, you could walk the beach at Ballintoy over to Whitehead Bay, which is again another beautiful coastal location in Northern Ireland.  Nestled in the cliff-side of Whitehead Bay is the hamlet of Portbraddan.  This hamlet, or cluster of houses as one website puts it, used to be home to Ireland's smallest church, however after further research the building in question was actually a cow barn!

Dunseverick CastleAlso within easy travelling distance of Ballintoy and the Giants Causeway is Dunseverick Castle.  There is not much left of this castle (only the ruins of a Gatelodge remain), but there is something appealing of ruins of castles.  A tower also remained from when the castle was built however it fell into the sea in 1978.  It is said that St. Patrick visited Dunseverick Castle many times as it was a key site in Ancient Ireland.
