This village is 8 miles from Lisburn and is one of the most beautiful villages in Northern Ireland.Hillsborough is an upmarket posh village; so posh that it will not allow a chip shop permission to open in the town (although there is a permanent chip van on the outskirts).
In between visits to the Castle and the Fort, a bit of gastro tourism can take place in the wonderful pubs and cafes that dot the village; a walk around the lake (beside the Fort) situated in a forest park can help burn off any calories from that grande latte with extra foam.
The Fort referred to above is the original fort residence of Lord Hillsborough. There is a public forest park and lake with an enjoyable walk which completes the setting
