  • Wind Surfing in Northern Ireland and Kite Surfing in Northern Ireland

Kite surfing involves skating over the sea on a small body board while a kite pulls you along at great speed. It has become a popular extreme sport in Northern Ireland with our numerous sand beaches being used as wind in Northern Ireland is nearly always in supply.  There are three main areas for kite surfing in Northern Ireland; Benone Strand (near Portrush), Ballyholme which is popular with the local Belfast population, and Tyrella Beach on Dundrum Bay, near Downpatrick, Co. Down.

While the power of the kite is a relatively new phenomenon, windsurfing in Northern Ireland is still a popular pastime as strong seas provide the perfect conditions for getting your board wet.  This sport can be very tough to master, but there is a modern board which is wider and more stable that beginners find easier to learn the basics on.  Windsurfing in Northern Ireland, depending on the wind, is not just for the coasts but there are inland spots as well which are great for windsurfing.

Activity providers in Northern Ireland who offer services to surfers in Northern Ireland include:

    Corralea Activity Centre, Corralea, Fermanagh

    Craigavon Watersports Centre, Craigavon, Armagh

    Creggan Country Park, Westway, Londonderry
