  • Climbing in Northern Ireland

There are many summer and winter climbing routes around Northern Ireland and rock climbers and winter mountaineers alike are spoilt for choice. From massive sea cliffs to the hills and rock faces of the Mourne Mountains, there is no lack of opportunity to test one's nerve.  There are over 30 activity operators or outdoor education centres who can rope you up and support you through your first climb.

The majority of the climbing takes place in the Mourne Mountains however Fairhead in Country Antrim is also popular.  Most mountaineering clubs have regular weekend meets in the hills as well as social gatherings closer to home to introduce newbies to the sport.

The photo above was taken by Nigel Clark of Lisburn, Northern Ireland.  This is a picture of an area in the Mournes (Silent Valley) where you could put your experience at climbing to work!
